Garden of Water and Wind was an opportunity to reflect on the midwestern culture and landscape that shaped my youth. The site was at the the edge of a hayfield, and (although the landowner did let the edge of the hayfield go unmowed in preparation for our work) presented a gorgeous contrast between the groomed monoculture of the hayfield and the unkepmpt, unmanaged meadow and wetland adjacent to it. With this sprawling installation, we tried to take viewers on a journey from tame to wild while showing the beauty of this everyday midwest landscape.
The Farm / Art DTour is produced by the amazing folks at Worm Farm Institute and happens every other year along the back roads of Wisconsin’s Driftless (unglaciated) area.
