This sculpture was created out of ivy collected from this site by a small group of volunteers, and hung under the trees that were freed from the clutches of the ivy. It was inspired by the story of Paramount Park, which has been preserved and restored through decades of stewardship and effort by neighbors and volunteers.

My intent was that the sculpture be a visual representation and celebration of collective efforts. In the same way that many hands working together can do amazing things, rope gains its strength through the intertwining of many small fibers. However, the work took on a different tone as the ivy asserted itself - defiant, grasping, and tangled; reflecting the turbulent 2016 election season and the reality that collective action manifests in ways both inspiring and disturbing.
