With THE SALON, Adria and I wanted the work to lead people through this natural area along the Green (upper Duwamish) River, and to create something that would be interesting to look at from above, as the site was underneath a 30-foot observation tower. For the first time, we taught braiding to a few volunteer assistants. Their experiences, coupled with our own, led us to think more deeply about the healing and transformative potential inherent in this work. 

To activate the space we hosted two public picnics / salons. For each event, we commissioned artists to teach some of the various arts and traditions that have inspired this work - accompanied by music and food cooked by local chefs.
